Aikido of Scranton, Inc. provides a safe, focused and an enjoyable training atmosphere to accommodate both the beginner and the advanced student. We do not discriminate based on sex, race, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability or age. Part of the mission of this school is to promote an understanding of Aikido as a method of conflict resolution and a resource for community growth. At Aikido of Scranton, our goal is to help students develops the skills necessary to have confidence in their personal environment. We are committed to, and have responsibility for, providing a quality self-defense educational program. Training in Aikido fosters physical as well as spiritual well being, and increases one’s self-confidence and the ability to face life’s day to day challenges. Aikido of Scranton teaches those techniques that enable one to defend against multiple attacks. Emphasis is placed on harmonious interaction with others, yet, if needed, the techniques can effectively immobilize an attacker. The student of Aikido conveys a sense of calm and assurance, in other words, grace under pressure. Therefore, the principles and techniques studied in class can be applied to almost any life situation.

Beginning students are not expected to be in top physical condition. Each individual progresses at his/her own pace. Hatha Yoga and Qigong techniques are incorporated into every class in order to condition students both mentally and physically. This allows for the prevention of injury and a greater sense of balance and control when executing the defensive techniques. While classes are often challenging, emphasis is placed on the building of inner strength and endurance. Men, women and children of all ages can learn Aikido, enjoy its benefits, and soon experience an enriched life!

We offer a training schedule featuring aikido classes most days of the week, with morning and evening classes available. We are conscious of the commitment required to train in Aikido. We therefore want to accommodate the different schedules that can often prevent people from enjoying the opportunity of training in Aikido. Let us know your scheduling needs, and new classes will be set up in the future.

We also specialize in the practice of the Traditional weapons of Aikido: hanbo (short stick), aiki bokken (wooden sword), aiki jo (4 foot staff) and tanto (knife) techniques. An intensive training program is also available for advanced students. Private lessons with Sensei are available by appointment.
